A Skull in Connemara
by Martin McDonagh

ok,ok,ok, ta be sure,ta be sure, you've seen Irish and you've seen black comedy! BUT you've never seen a black Irish Comedy done like this before!

An innovative staging concept blended with an outstanding cast, award winning script and brilliant direction will make this production a must see!

The first and third Act is set in St Paul's Presbyterian Church of Devonport (a church that celebrates difference, seats 200 and is listed as a catagory A historic building) whilst the second act is set outside in the surrounding graveyard! Wear sensible shoes and bring an umbrella!

This black comedy set in Catholic Galway is directed by David Coddington - one of Auckland¹s most respected and experienced practitioners - directing since the early days of the Mercury Theatre.

The story is mixed beautifully with Gaelic banter and strong under pining of its central characters promising stand out performances from:

DES WALLACE as Tom Hanlon
JUNE BRITTON as Mary ( Children of Fire Mountain)
JOHNNY RAFFERTY

SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL THEATRE
SUPPORTING NEW ZEALAND HERITAGE!

Tech notes:

The venue for our production is an historic Auckland site, in Devonport. We intend to donate a percentage of our sales to the restoration of the old headstones in its graveyard. We know that the Devonport Community have a lively interest in their heritage. Likewise, the church is keen to support us as a member of North Shore City’s arts community.

The Real Theatre Company has come up with an interesting concept in staging the play in a quirky old 200 seater Presbyterian church in Devonport that has raked seating. The first and third act of the play will be set in the church. The 2nd act will have patrons standing under a massive tree (outside) using the real surrounding graveyard for the graves that they dig (facade graves here of course!) The whole environment is perfect for this clever Irish play that requires minimal set and props but demands superb acting in a unique setting.

Godspell (7 - 17 July)

In 2003, our production of the much loved 70’s sweet rock musical, Godspell, was a runaway success – so much so that we’ve decided to do it again… with the support of our original cast and production crew.

We are delighted to have enlisted the enthusiastic support of Beaumont
Centre - www.beaumontcentre.co.nz. Our show proved a hit with families, the young, the not-so-young and the definitely still young at heart. If you missed out last year, we’re giving you another chance.
