Shirley Valentine

2003 Season
Shirley Valentine
A personal journey of triumphant measures

The heroine, played by Nancy Schroder, is a rather ordinary English housewife trapped in a routine existence and a mundane marriage.

As Shirley prepares dinner for her family, she ruminates on life, talking to the wall about her husband, her children, her past, and an attractive offer she has received from a girlfriend to go to Greece for a holiday.

When her husband spurns the dinner, it is the straw that breaks the camel's back and Shirley goes to Greece where she has an 'adventure' and decides to stay.

Shirley reclaims herself, her dignity and her life. Having felt worthless for so long, Shirley breaks out. A personal journey of triumphant measures.

Willy Russell's wit, incisive humour and telling observations make Shirley Valentine perfect entertainment for a spring evening.
